The asbestos air sampling technician certification training course is normally completed in two days. New York State Industrial Code Rule 56 (12NYCRR56), United States Environmental Protection Agency and United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration asbestos regulations specify that this training is required for those individuals who perform asbestos air sampling activities. The asbestos abatement air sampling technician course includes a comprehensive curricula that covers all asbestos project area sampling scenarios. Students learn about phase contrast microscopy (PCM) and transmission electron microscopy analysis (TEM). They also learn differences in sampling equipment and sampling strategies. This course has an in depth hands-on training exercise where students must calibrate and use various sampling equipment. Each student is also required to keep a detailed project record, sampling maps, and sampling plan. This course concludes with a fifty (50) question multiple choice exam (25 questions for refreshers). Those who complete the initial training course may use their Cornerstone issued training certificate (DOH FORM 2832) as a temporary certification to work for forty-five days while they await their official ‘Hard Card’ from the New York State Department of Labor.
